2023: The group organizes a football competition for political parties

A non-governmental organization, the Jalo Okwor Foundation, in partnership with Twenty Bucks Creative, is set to organize a football tournament later this year between the political parties, to promote peaceful coexistence ahead of the 2023 elections.

Briefing journalists yesterday in Abuja on the sidelines of the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the foundations, Twenty Bucks Creative founder Charbel Olusanya Jarrouge said the Sports for Peace “, will be organized in December 2022.

He said: “Teams include all political parties in Nigeria, which are (APC, PDP, LP, NNPP, AAC, etc.)” For those who wish to participate in this tournament, we would contact the young leaders to organize a team who would represent their party for the event

“From our side, we can guarantee Nigerians a level playing field, by providing a foreign referee who does not support any political party and does not even know (who is Yoruba, who is Hausa and who is Igbo).”

Sports for Peace initiative coordinator Stephen Ushie Okwor described sport as a vehicle that accommodates all tribes, religions, economic and social status.

“In the face of this, we are using sport and football in particular to identify and redirect young people who might otherwise have gone down the wrong paths,”

“We are optimistic that this partnership will result in greater exposure to the message we bring, which is the message of zero violence before, during and after the election.”

He called on all Nigerians, especially the youth groups of the various political parties, political aspirants and their supporters, security agencies, media and civil society to deliberately preach the message of peaceful elections.

He commended the efforts of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution, headed by Professor Bakut Tewah Bakut, as well as all other civil society organizations promoting peace in Nigeria.

“We remain committed to encouraging all young people to avoid violence and be peaceful during the upcoming election period and to try to avoid violence as much as possible.” he said
