Cecilia Hyatt McLeroy passed away peacefully on July 1, 2022 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was 76 years old. She was a caring mother, a loving grandmother and a friend to many.
She was born to the late James and Mary-Love Hyatt on December 18, 1945 in Canton, NC After graduating from high school, Cecilia moved to Atlanta and later to Fayetteville, GA.
When her children were young, she was a “stay-at-home mom” helping Girl Scouts and at her daughters’ school and events. Cecilia has worked in retail for Rich’s and Macy’s. After retiring, she moved to Huntsville, Alabama to be closer to her grandsons.
Cecilia had a spunky personality with a unique sense of humor. She always had a smile to share and would do anything for her family and friends. She liked to listen to music, have a good laugh and admire the view of the ocean.
She is survived by her daughters Maria McLeroy and Melanie M. Coakley (Chip), her grandsons Ben Coakley and Matthew Coakley.
A celebration of life will be held on August 7, 2022 in Alabama. The family will also be hosting a Celebration of Life in Georgia at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org), the American Cancer Society as Cecilia was a breast cancer survivor (donate3.cancer.org), or the Greater Huntsville Humane Society (ghhs.org)
